Abner Mares says he is totally focused and ready to explode against Joseph Agbeko – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Council’s Silver 118 pounds Champion, Abner Mares, is geared up ahead of his mega showdown with the current International Boxing Federation’s Bantamweight world champion, Joseph Agbeko.
Both Abner Mares and Joseph Agbeko are set to meet on August 13, 2011 in the Bantamweight Tournament Final at the Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and this fight will have Agbeko’s IBF title and Mares’ WBC Silver belt on the line.
Therefore, Mares reckons this is a very big fight for him which can really put him on the right track towards the glory.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I look at this as my hardest fight, but winning the IBF belt and the SHOWTIME tourney on one night is something that can really set my career in motion. There are lots of opportunities for the winner after Saturday.”
If the 25-year-old undefeated Mexican warrior, Mares, who has won 21 of his 22 fights (1 Draw) including 13 by the way of a knockout, wins, he will also become first home-grown Golden Boy winner.
Mares stated, “A chance to become the first home grown Golden Boy world champion is very exciting to me. I definitely would like to be the first, but I don’t feel any nervous pressure.”
In the end, Mares revealed his physical fitness and training camps. The Mexican claimed his training has gone wonderful and he is in the best shape of his life.
Mares revealed, “Actually, this camp went by fast and now my training’s done. I’m in great shape and very excited about fighting on Saturday. I’m totally focused and ready to explode.”
Abner Mares will enter the ring as a 2-1 favourite against Joseph Agbeko and it will certainly be an explosive bout. However, we still have to see if he can really see off his 6 year younger opponent in the ring.
