Question:

Abolition of Government Stamp Duty on Homes?

by  |  earlier

Has anyone heard of plans announced this week by the Government to help the housing market by abolishing some forms of Stamp Duty on house purchases?

If so, any details on how and when this might take place would be appreciated.

  1. The government has announced no such plans. This is only speculation and the government has only said that they are looking at changing Stamp Duty. They are yet to announce any plans, let alone say when they come into place. There may not even be any plans to announce...it's all just speculation.

  2. I wouldn't hold your breath if  this useless bunch of idiots take it of one thing they will sneak it back on something else and add a bit for themselves

  3. Yes but it's only  short term to kick start the housing market again.

  4. dunno, but if they are backtaxing cars thanks to the new road tax, can they back-refund me my stamp duty? thieving gets.

  5. It's still in the pipeline.

The plan is not to abolish it but to "defer" payment. In other words it like a payment break - but you still owe it.

  6. Don't get to excited, this is at present just more spin and the actual statement wat deferred not abolished. This means that you would have to pay it eventually, typical Labour keep putting back the problem until it can't be avoided.

  7. Norman Lamont tried this and it had no discernible effect.  Why can't Labour have an idea of their own for a change ?

  8. Darling has only said he will look at the idea but in any case they will not abolish it only defer the payment. Anybody who trusts this government on anything but most of all a tax like Stamp Duty is rather naive.

  9. I think it was just spin, and suggested only for first time buyers. They are fools if they think it will kick start the housing market. How the h**l is £2000 going to make a difference with a £20000 dep, lawyers fees, estate agents fees, land registry fees, survey fees etc already to pay for?

  10. That dozy pair of ditherers - McGreaseball Taxgrabbing Brown and his dummy pal McStrangefellow Darling are only making the housing market drop further into the abyss with their latest bout of indecision.

  11. There is no firm plan to abolish stamp duty on house purchases.  A. Darling is just making mischief because while the idea of abolishing stamp duty hangs in the air, it means that potential buyers are going to wait and see, thus even more slump in the housing market.

Bring back Maggie all is forgiven.
