Aboriginals in Cairns? Violence?

I have heard that the Aboriginals in Cairns are more violent & angry than in other parts of Australia. Example, in Mt Isa, they are drunk but harmless & keep to themselves.

What is the interaction like with the Aboriginals in Cairns & everyone else? I am thinking about moving to cairns and have heard a few violent stories.

Mt Isa is like the Alice when it comes to indigenous Australians, they are more connected to their traditions and have a connection to their people which keeps them in check.

But Cairns has more of a mix of aboriginal who have a severe chip on their shoulders, most are into substance abuse which gets them into trouble. I have travelled to Cairns many many times and found them like most aboriginals.. OK till they drink or sniff substances. Don't worry about it enjoy Cairns but be street savvy.

Cairns is safe - take no notice of the stories you here.

Sure the odd one sleeps in the park - well there are small groups actually, but they are harmless. !

I'm in town all the time, the only thing I don't like is the odd one begs for a smoke off you outside Cairns Central (the main city mall).  You just tell them to bugger off and walk away.  Security is good, they tell them to move on if they see them begging.

There is a few suburbs that I wouldn't live in, but like any city there is the odd 'rough area'.

Cairns is gorgeous place to live, I don't ever want to move!

Kuranda is also nice - went there today actually !

Its Darwin that has problems with the aboriginals more so than Cairns.  I suggest if you are thinking of moving to Cairns you should go up for a holiday and have a look around.  I was there last November and didn't have any problems.

I dunno about Cairns,

but they say in other parts (up near Darwin) that the Aboriginals tend to sleep on the roads.

and they also say if you happen to hit one to keep on driving rather than stop because you will be ambushed by a whole bunch of them out of the bushes and bashed senseless.
