Question:

Abortion (I know I probably shouldn't, but I will)?

Since most believers of astrology also believe that the personality forms at the exact moment of birth when a baby takes it's first breath, do they also believe that this is when the soul essence takes form in a person?

Therefore, most astrology believers should also think that abortion is acceptable, at least as a last resort (not necessarily as a form of contraception).

What do you think? What are your opinions on abortion? : )

  1. I think you have made an assumption in that "most believers of astrology also believe that the personality forms at the exact moment of birth". While astrology is indeed based on time of birth, I think you might find quite a number of people do not subscribe to this, or they have not really thought it through because of the influence of science, in particular, genetics.

It is a fascinating HYPOTHETICAL question, and here's my similarly hypothetical discussion. If a true believer does indeed believe that personality and soul are obtained at the moment of birth, do they necessarily believe that the child is not alive until that time as well?? If someone is of the belief that personality, soul and life are inseparable and obtained at birth, then logically, they would believe that abortion is acceptable since the child is not alive or a whole person while in the womb.

  2. i'm pro life, honestly.

    no death penalty...no abortion...NO KILLING.

i believe it's a form of murder, and if you were destined to have that child, you should have that child.

but what do i know? that's just my idea.

  3. Hi there...(giggling) my, you do like to make things exciting and interesting from time to time don't you!?

No one can really say for sure one way or the other - about the soul of a baby...no one can prove or disprove...no one can remember back that far....

So since this question is asking for opinions - I will give you mine - lol!

I have been pregnant twice....I have one child...the first pregnancy, I sadly miscarried, the second one went perfectly! The first pregnancy I felt something was wrong from the start (call it intuition or what have you...I felt like it was the baby communicating with me...that was just me). The second one - I did have a complicated pregnancy so I had 'bed rest' for 6 months (yuck!)...but I felt great the whole time and never felt that my baby was in any danger...(again with the second pregnancy I felt that the baby and I had a bond from the get go and had a sort of communication going on all the way...).

So, for me, I felt both babies had souls before they were born - that is just what I felt - it could have been hormones - who knows! But it's kind of weird that my son is exactly what I felt he would be - personality wise...lol!

I am pro choice...I think a decision like that shouldn't be made by anyone else except who is going through whatever! When I was younger and married, my husband was extremely abusive and more than likely would have been the same way to our children! We practiced safe s*x but there towards the end I ought him putting tiny prick holes in our condom packs...crazy! So when I left him, there was a little scare that I could have been pregnant - if I had been, I would have had an abortion! No question! He would have never had left us alone and he would have made everyone involved miserable! No way! (and yes, he actually stalked me for a while after we seperated!) Crazy!

I also would definitely consider abortion if something was wrong with the fetus (I mean something major)...or if I were raped...

But no, I don't consider abortion as a method of contraception is right at all! But that's just me - I'm pro choice so what's good for one isn't necessarily good for another!

I think that the baby grows into its soul...does that make sense? I don't believe a baby has a soul from the time of conception...I think it grows into a soul after it reaches a certain point in the pregnancy...and it could even be different per baby - who knows really!? But I don't see the necessity in someone having a baby who might not be able to live a healthy and good quality of life due to disease, virus, or disabilty of some type (like major mental disorder)....unless the parents feel it is necessary! After all, they are the ones who will have to provide and care for this child until it dies due to disease or virus...or even care for them for their full live's due to mental handicap...yes, in these cases, I definitely feel the parents should have the right to make that decision to take on that responsibilty and burden or to be burdened for deciding to abort the fetus...they would know better than anyone else if they could completely care for their child or not!

I have been in halfway houses and homes for mentally handicapped people..people who cannot take care of themselves and either have no family left to care for them or have no family that is willing to care for them - it is very sad and cruel! I would not want my child to suffer this way!

  4. I believe the soul enters the body either at or just before the moment of birth.  I do not believe however that abortion is acceptable. This is a heated topic, so I don't impose my views on others. I am anti-abortion so I don't have abortions. That's my effort in the pro-life movement.

  5. i'm in pro with responsability. you don't know who's going to born, some people say if whatever the cells have no life but that's stupid you know there's going to be life no matter how many things you want to think, i mean where did you come from?. I don't know your abortion reasons but whatever happened to you or whatever you did don't be fool by thinking you got no life inside you.

  6. I beleive the soul enters the body when the first breath is taken...I go against Abortion though because of the fact that this is a life that is forming inside another and has a purpose and journy to fulfill...

  7. well if u want but i wouldn't do that its sad:-((((

  8. Wow got to hand it to you.. you took on a tough subject. I honestly can say there are circumstances that occur in life to make me believe in abortions.

I believe the soul is created when the life is forming inside of you.. I was raised catholic am now a Lutheran.

Some people believe that if you aborted the baby dont worry..that child will come back to you another time and God knows it wasnt the right time.

And some believe you will see this child again when you leave this earth..

  9. To each there own. I have had one, and I made the RIGHT choice for Me. And that should be the only opinion that matters. Everyone else can say what the want, but they do not know what your situation is and they can never understand.

So do what is best for you and only you

  10. I understand that its somewhat unfair and stuff but what if it wasn't your fault..  My friend was on birth control, she had the Norplant inserted.. she also said she used a condom whilst having s*x (she has no plans on having children for along time) and the person she was having s*x was not a partner.. and she found out she was pregnant, why should she have to keep the child when she tried to prevent herself from having one.. she is not a bad person for having an abortion.. is it not better than having the child.. then the parents falling out and the father not being around.

  11. I am pro-choice.

Sh#t happens sometimes. Mistakes happen sometimes of people's own fault and sometimes not.

    I agree with Rachstar.

Maybe there was some kind of divine plan designed afterall...the woman/parents might have to experience the trauma and decision either to keep or not to keep. Who knows ?

You can not kill a soul anyway and the debates is still going on as to when the sould enters the body.

I believe that the soul will reenter anyway. So you are only basically killing the flesh.

Why should people have the burden and their lives changed altogether forever after for the worse if they have a child they do not want in the first place ? The child might end up neglected, dysfunctional, grow up and end up a criminal and kill themselves - in extreme situations -...!!!!:-).

I have always found it kind of ironic when pro-life people line up and end up killing doctors !!! or try to force women to keep their unwanted babies..........would they be willing to pay for all the necessities of a child/teen/adult ?? heck I bet not !!

As to adoption.......well sometimes some teens just do not want their parents to know. To just not regard reality in the face is kind of hypocritical.

And maybe those women wonder how the child would end up...dunno about that.

edit: yep..like twilight said. I know an example of an extremely catholic couple. They chose to keep the child even though they knew the child was going to be a down-syndrome baby. Well........they are very sad people now......Recluses, hard- up financially, all kind of responsabilities.....

I have no doubt that some "higher minded people" would not mind. You see it in the media all the time and they do not regret their choice.

But for some..........it is way too much of a burden..sorry.

PS2 : what about all those IVF embryos who are kept in reserve in case but  whose biological parents do not want anymore ? The hospitals do not know what to do with them ( or maybe a law has been passed..). That would be called neglect and abandonment by the parents...

  12. I've always been pro-choice and always will be. I feel that it's up to the woman to decide what to do with her own body and what I feel about abortion is irrelevant. Who am I to judge when I've never been in that predicament myself?

No offense John, but it's really easy for you to say that seeing that as a man you'll never have to make that choice yourself. You'll never be in that situation so you would never know how that would feel and what you would truly do. If a woman gets raped then why should she have to go through a pregnancy that was FORCED upon her? I feel like saying more but I'll be a good girl and just say who are you to judge?

  13. I'm pro choice. I don't consider it killing until the baby has formed and begun breathing. You are not supposed to abort a child months after conception. It's something that should be done right away, before the child has been properly developed.

This is my take on it. Would you rather abort the child and give them a second chance to have a good life, or bring a child into a world where you cannot take care of it? What about those that were raped, or on drugs during the conception? What about people who are not physically able to raise a child? Should we add one more to the population? I just feel that the spirit is more important than the unborn body. The spirit is not killed and will have a second chance at life.

  14. I think I see your point... Technically the baby really isn't alive until its really born, right? And with this in mind why would those who believe in this have such bad feelings about abortions? I get it if that's really what you mean. And you make a good point. I, however, do not put all my stock into astrology; I still have many other beliefs from many other things including my own thoughts and theories and whatnot. So for me, personally, I still wouldn't see abortion as being not so bad.

For the record though, my eldest sister had to have an abortion sometime earlier this year. (Note I said she, *had* to have it.) There were too many complications and if she had gone through with the pregnancy she and the baby, fetus, however you want to look at it, both would have died. So for a last resort, abortion is not really a bad thing; it's an only option. And abortion on the whole, is still a personal decision no matter how you look at it. And it's not something for anyone to judge.

Good point you made. Much luck.

  15. women should have a choice no matter what, Just keep inmind it's not a form of birth control

  16. I can't tell another adult what they can or cannot do. However i am against it.

  17. If you don't like abortion, don't have one. I'm pro-choice.

  18. If you're going to get an abortion anyway why are you bothering to ask us about it?

I think abortion is murder.  The baby is an individual human being with it's own genetics, finger prints, personality, face, life, and everything else that makes a human being unique.  What right do you have to take his/her life just because he/she is momentarily inconveniencing you?  You know that there are other options besides killing your child.  Why not find one of them?

All the physical and brain chemical prerequisites for personality are given to the baby at the moment of conception.  From then on it's a matter of environment.

Are you actually using astrology as a justification for this?  The very least you could do is take personal responsibility for your actions.  Own up to what you're doing like an adult and quit trying to find excuses so you can feel better.
