Question:

Abortion or childbirth -- which is safer? *DO NOT WANT BELIEFS OR OPINIONS!*?

I don't want opinions here, just facts. Can't seem to find anything. I just want to know which is safer, since so many "doctors" tell their patients that abortions are so much safer. In my opinion, I don't see how, but I want some real facts, not opinions, and not people shoving their beliefs on me. I'm 28 weeks pregnant on Friday, KEEPING MY BABY & DIDN'T THINK TWICE ABOUT IT! So don't throw your beliefs and freak out, and don't click "ANSWER" if you don't have a legit, fact-based answer.

Sorry to sound so rude, I don't mean to, but it's a little annoying seeing 120982 responses (won't say answers, because none actually answer) that don't answer the question.

Thanks! :)

  1. I would have to say childbirth is perfectly safe since I've done it three times and I'm still here.

  2. they both are risky and you could die off of both that is the worst case. now you could loss your uterus from both too. you could bleed out from both. those are facts.

  3. child birth seems safe

  4. Well, it all depends on the circumstances. Keeping a child is always the best option. My wife experienced a late term termination as it was called. The child, a female, had only one half of a heart and would have expired, not matter what happened. The doctors said it would be best to terminate. It was a sad day for us. It is not up to me to pass judgement, regardless. Good luck.

  5. I think it really depends on the person. Some women have medical problems and having a baby would cause harm to their bodies. However, back in the day when abortions were illegal, abortions weren't safe and harmed the woman.

  6. Considering that a fetus is murdered with every abortion, it is clear that childbirth is safer.

  7. I would think that childbirth is the safest way. Even after an abortion the fetus still has to be removed. That can cause infection and other things. Childbirth can too but I do think its lower chances with child birth!

  8. I would say giving birth is safer.  With abortions you risk uterus infections and damage that doesn't normally happen with giving birth.  Abortions also can cause major health issues if there is an infection and many woman that have abortions don't even realize they have the infection where as when you give birth you see a Dr 6-8 weeks later and they tell you what signs to look for and everything.  I have only known 3 woman that got abortions and they all suffered severe infections shortly afterwards and had to go through severe pain afterwards too and nothing to show for it and there have been woman that have died from complications of abortions.  I don't know though really, i haven't read any recent studies that would show one way or the other I would just think that with abortion being such a horrible experience for your body to go through, not natural that it would be much more risky.

  9. I would have to say childbirth because i delivered my daughter and i am perfectly healthy, my friend got an abortion and it messed up her insides, she will never be able to have children now and has abnormal paps, so childbirth is safer!

  10. I would think childbirth is just a bit safer than abortion but they both can cause infection, loss of reproductive organ, loss of blood causing anemia. There is always going to be a risk when something "foreign" happens to a body.. and yes baby is a foreign object some womens bodies attack a pregnancy. It all depends on a persons medical history.

  11. Not sure. I think it would depend on the procedure - when in pregnancy it is done (ie: 8 weeks vs 19 weeks). But I would have to say childbirth (vaginal). Many abortions require general anesthesia and that always has inherent risks.

  12. Safer? Technically in terms of death, abortions are safer. Far less women die from abortions and complications than from childbirth and complications. According to MSNBC, in the U.S., there are 13 maternal deaths resulting from childbirth out of every 100,000 live births. And, according to the CDC, there are 0.6 deaths of the patient out of every 100,000 abortions performed.

So, those are the stats. As a Biologist, it's a well known fact among us that carrying a pregnancy and giving birth are much more risky than having an abortion. But, in reality, women can't/won't stop having babies out of fear of death.

  13. the most common affects of an abortion is inflammation of the cervix. Although this may sound like a very harmless, insignificant side effect, the truth is that it is not. In fact, the results of this side effect tend to be very severe. One of the things that it can lead to is Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, which can eventually permanently damage your pelvis. It can also lead to Cervical Cancer later on in life. It is estimated that about three thousand women die from Cervical Cancer in the United States each year. women die sometimes from childbirth as well I think the risks are equal but different.

  14. As long as the abortion is performed by a licensed doctor in a clinic, it is safer than childbirth.  That means, few women will die from abortion than will die from childbirth.

I am sure you are going to get responses both ways from people spouting propaganda.  I am not.  It is a fact.  I wish I could quote the source, but I forget the book.

The CDC also maintains that early term abortions are much safer than childbirth.

*edit*  Poppy, you are dead wrong.  General anesthesia is seldom used for abortion.  You are given a sedative (such as Versed).  You are NOT put all the way under.  Please don't give an answer if you aren't sure it's correct.  It makes you look dumb and it misleads people

  15. I guess it really depends on the woman having it because her medical status may affect the level of danger she is puting herself in. Everything has risks. Millions of people give birth everyday and hundreds get abortions. They're considered common practice
