  1. The women were sent out of the village for a little vacation, and everyone was happy. :P

  2. THEY USED PIECES OF CLOTH, THEY'LL WASH THEM AND RE USE THEM.  FOR CONTRECEPTION, THEY USED VINEGAR AND LEMON INFUSED SPONGES EVERY TIME THEY HAD s*x.

  3. my mom who is 80 years old, used rags  her underwear supposedly kept them in place.  i know they used some plant leaves to wipe, like toilet paper.   so i'm sure they the same to keep from letting the menses running down their legs.  they probably had to keep the smell of blood down to a minimum, secondary to animals.  some cultures banished their women to a house separate from the rest of the village.  good question though.  .

  4. I read that women would restrict their movement during these days. And  sit on rags, thus we have the term,"rag days".Or, "She's on the rag!".

  5. The woman was actually shunned for this and (like when giving birth or being pregnant) would have to stay in a specific house/tent that all of the rest of the women stayed in. This still happens to girls in 3rd world countries.

  6. I dunno, they would probably just "go with the flow" (haha pun intended.) It probably wasn't really 'taboo' like it is now, i guess. It was probably just regarded as something that just happens.

  7. Over the years a lot of different methods were used. Women did use rags, as you could imagine this was pretty gross. They had to be changed often, and then the woman would have to clean the rag to be used again. And before that things were even worse. Women used all types of things, some were kept in place with undergarments while others were inserted like a tampon. Women in different parts of the world used different things depending upon what was available, but sea sponge and grass were used. In these days the women were usually shunned, and it wasn't considered 'just something that happened' as someone else said. Women on their period were pretty much punished. They were forced to live in a different house than the men, they weren't allowed to bathe or go swimming. They had to be kept away from everyone else because it was believed that the blood was a curse and coming in contact with it could be dangerous or even deadly. Today it's no big deal to go out and buy some pads or tampons, and we're constantly seeing ads for them on tv. Periods now are a lot less 'taboo' then they were years ago. Just be happy you're living in this age where being 'on the rag' or having 'the curse' are just phrases. Hope I could help!

  8. very long ago when there was no pads and stuff my great grand mother told my grandmother and my grandmother told me tht long ago they tied a string around your waist and then wrapped a piece of cloth and hooked one piece of cloth in front and the other piece at the back so it will be like an underwear.

  9. No birth control was around then.

As for what they used for periods, they used rags... washed them, then reused them. That is also where the saying "On the rag" comes from. ( I hate that one, but it is where it originated from )

  10. they used rags and would have to wash them and reuse them

  11. well the Holy Bible accounts of women going into fields and digging a hole and releasing the products of that event in the ground.  Now how they did when it caught them unawares I have the faintest.

  12. they used rolled up cloths and just washed them out when they got full
