I`ve never heard any announcement about the cause. I said to a friend at the time that when the reason finally came out. That it would be fuel related. ie. they ran out of it. Anyone heard anything?

  1. It had to be defueled after the landing.

  2. Its allways unfortunate and  so easy to blame the crew. Maybe a throttle by wire fault. Take the train!

  3. The latest I have heard, the FAA and Boeing are unable to determine a cause for the extremely unusual loss of power from BOTH engines. As I understand, the engines were running at the time, but would not respond to the request from the pilot for more power.

These kinds of things frequently take months to sort out and the cause may never be absolutely determined.

My theory is a combination of pilot error and a malfunction of the engine control computers.

  4. i heard it was computer error due to phone signals on wrong / forbidden frequency

  5. Do you mean that 777 that came down short?

They're still investigating. I know some damage was found to the high pressure fuel pumps and they're currently trying to find out what caused it.  In addition, I quote, "comprehensive examination and analysis is being conducted on the entire aircraft and engine fuel system; including the modelling of fuel flows taking account of the environmental and aerodynamic effects."

It wasn't short of fuel, that's for certain, and there was no crew error other than when they switched everything off in a hurry once they were down.

  6. that 777?
