A 15 hour long flight with 270 passengers continueing to use the toilet and flushing it , and with passengers washing their hands and faces , and with water needed to make tea/coffee for the passengers , can you tell me how the aircraft manages to store so much water during its 15 hour journey ?

This question has always been a deep mystery to me

  1. there is a water tank that holds enough for washing and drinking 300 people would take about 400 gallons so it would take a tank about the size of eigt or nine trash barrels

very easy to fit in such a large aircraft

the toilets use a special septic fluid that is recirculated so there is none lost on flushing

  2. blue water for the crapper,, and like the other fella said 300 -400 water tank just filled with a garden hose

  3. A 747 holds 1600 litres of water (420 gallons) for as many as 400 people.  Now that I think about it, that's only 1 gallon per person for a 15 hour flight!

The toilets that use a vacuum use just enough water to rinse the bowl, toilets that use the blue water don't use the potable water at all.  The sink faucets won't run continously, a lever needs to be held down to get the water to flow.

From what I've seen,  10-11 hour flights, they use a little more than half of the water.  On 13-15hour flights they use about 3/4 of the water.  There were times that the water tanks weren't filled up and they ran out of water.  The plane had to make an unscheduled stop and have the water serviced.  It cost the company $$$

Water from the galley and lavatory sinks is dumped overboard, it's not stored like someone said.

    btw DON'T DRINK THE WATER!

The water tanks do not get cleaned.  The only maintenance that is required, is to put some bleach in the tanks and run it through the sinks, water boilers and coffee makers.  Then drain the water, refill, run the clean water through everything again, drain, refill, and if the water still smells and tastes like bleach, drain and refill.  Since it takes so long to drain and refill and you need a place approved to drain the water, most mechanics only put a few ml's and call the job done.

The airlines require the water from the hose to be turned on for a minute, then sterilized, then turned on agian, then the servicing connection on the plane is to be sterilized before connecting the hose to the plane and serviced with regular tap water.

What usually happens is the "garden hose"  is usually dragged on the ground near the grey water drain, then hooked up.

  4. for toilets the water is not used..they use a high pressure gas  system.

the all water used in a/c are either recycled or they get stores in a design tank whose capacity is exsactly the same amount of water taken by the plane.

in air u cant create water so there is no more doubt
