The other night I watched the Ali vs Frazier fight 3 titled the Thrilla in Manila but I was confused because I thought there was only two fights including the fight at Madison Square Garden when Frazier won. So where was fight 2 and what was the outcome?

  1. Don't feel bad, the second fight is often forgotten because was a bad, boring, afair.

Ali excessivly clinched Frazier everytime Frazier came in, and many refs today said they'd have deducted points for excessivly clinching.

Fight is controversal since it could have gone either way, but many felt judges gave Ali the absured wide margin win since Ali couldn't lose to Frazier twice.

Ali threaten to retire if he lost, the same way he threaten to retire if he loss to Norton again, and Ali was a big name and draw to boxing.

  2. The second fight was held at Madison Square Garden, and it was not for a world title because Frazier lost it when George Foreman knocked him out.  It was for the NABF title (a regional belt).  Ali won the 12 round fight by a unanimous decision with scores of 6-5-1, 7-4-1, and 8-4.  In today's scoring that would equal scores of 115-114, 116-113, and 116-112.  It was a decent fight, but it was by far the least exciting of all three bouts, which is why you never really see it on TV or even hear anything about it.  It was also a pretty close fight, but Ali was the clear winner.

  3. the first fight in 1971 was the best

  4. There were 3 fights. The first and last were incredible fights. The 2nd fight, also at the Garden was a little more one sided, although a tough fight. Frazier won the first one "fight of the Century" Ali won the middle one. The "Thrilla in Manila" was a war fought in the Phillipeans in 100degree heat. Fraziers corner stopped it after the 14th, Joe's eyes were very swollen & he couldn't see Ali's right hand.

  5. Fight 2 was also at Madison Square Garden, but Joe Frazier had lost the championship to George Foreman. Ali won a unanimous decision.
