About Brazilian Jiujitsu? What temperament should i have?

I'm usually paired against full grown men and I'm 15 in my MMA class, during Brazilian Jiujitsu

Do you think its better of my to lose my temper - my body produces ALOT of adrenaline and i can barely be held, and I keep some degree of rational thought

or stay calm and think out move by move with more rational thought and be held easily? I've actually countered a few moves using this.

  1. Staying calm and relaxed will benefit you the most.   Anger will only lead to defeat.  It will cloud your judgment and make you do things that are the opposite of your training, which will usually cost you the match or fight.

Stay calm and relaxed and save your energy for when you need it the most.

  2. Guarantee that if you lose your temper, you're going to either get caught, or gas quickly.

  3. jiujitsu is about technique and leverage, not power and strength.  Some guys are really aggressive with their bjj , others are not.  I think that bjj is very technical and if you are way aggressive you are more likely to get caught in a submission.

  4. Like most grappling, Jujitsu should be explosions of energy during times of opportunity.  Staying calm until just the right moment, then releasing energy to better your position. Adrenaline dumping can make you gas a lot faster during a match.  But you should ask your trainer's and/or coaches, not us!

  5. This is actually a really good question because I can relate to this.  when I was a youngster, light years ago (around your age) I always had this mentality that if I "tensed up", i could better perform and be more explosive b/c of the adrenaline factor-what I dind't know was this approach inevitably lead to injuries and frustrations.  Now that I';m a wise old man, I learn to relax and focus at the same time-your movements will be more natural and controlled.  Good luck out there

  6. relax

    look for openings

i kinda know how you feel im 19 and 170 and  grapple guys who are 20's and 30's and around 200 pounds

but i go slow and steady, they give me an arm i explode on it

    back i explode on it

but the key is to relax

the faster you go and try to beat someone the bigger the chnce your gunna lose

i have a partner who would explode on me from the word go, dive all around, take my back, i'd relax, slowly move into him, then when he tried to explode again he would usually leave an arm there for a key lock, a knee for a kneebar

he would go so fast he didn't know he left those for me to grab

my sensei had a black belt in BJJ who trained in Brazil come in and hold a seminar moving like a snail he would submit people who could outright bench press this guy

but he moved slow, pinned them down, and would just take an arm and arm bar, and whats worse he did it so slow and correct you could see him doing it and do nothing to stop him

  7. no dont lose your temper i am 14 aqnd am wrestling men 2 times my size just try your best

  8. stay calm but explode when the timing is right. dont do too much of either. work on technique and you can beat guys twice your size..

  9. You should keep your head about it.You never strike out of anger. The only thing that will come out of anger is embarrassment.Besides no matter what position your in there's always a counter to every move. It's a lot easier to think of it when you remain calm.

  10. You should keep your cool.  All getting overly aggressive will do is get you hurt or hurt someone else.  You need to think of the average BJJ student in your class being a full grown man, with a family and a full time job.  You destroy his knee or shoulder and he can't work how would you feel.  Also if it gets you hurt...you obviously have skill as far as being able to rough house with older more experienced guys have talent...imagine now something happens that ruins your life.  All that can happen with you rolling with older stronger grapplers is your technique improves...Keep it calm and use your brain you'll come out way better in the end.
