About Guitar Tuning ?

Beginners start with the standard EADGBE tuning

then advanced players change the tuning

how ?

if you're playing with the standard tuning

and you get used to it

do you need to spend all that time you worked with the standard tuning

to learn how to play in other tunings ?

i tried to tune my bass E string on my guitar to D or C

i wasn't able to find the notes on that string

how does this work ?

can someone explain this for me ?

thanks

  1. When you change the tuning your what you are doing is allowing different cord variations to be played that you couldn't play before. When you Drop the E6 string down to "D" you are now able to play the entire cord of "D" and not having to mute the E6 string. Also when you change the tuning it makes it easier to play a song without having to adjust your fingers as much. As a beginner you shouldn't be dropping anything yet, maybe "D" but thats about it. If you want an easy way to drop D just match the pitch of your E6(bass E) with your D string (4th string up). Hope this helped.

  2. well "advanced" players dont always change the tunning and basicly they drop the tuning  you can look its up on wiki for a possibly more fittiny answer though some tunings require stronger or thicker strings so that the strings dont bust. but thats basicly it, nothing to complicated

  3. it really depends on you when you got o other tunings doesnt mean you're good it depends on what song and what you vocalist's (if you;re in a band) vocal range is that's when you change the tunings but on normal songs it's usally standard tuning or dropped d.
