I have a 50inch plasma hdtv. Wanted to know if the wide screen or cinema view, where there are black lines at the top and bottom burn in when you view dvds and regular broadcast/cable tv? Some dvd have zoom feature where it will let you view it full screen but some dont so is it safe to watch in cinema or that wide screen resolution, and i will i get the burn in from the two lines at the top and bottom? Plasmas are ***** to maintain all together sometimes.

  1. You can't burn in darkness.

  2. No dark images can't burn in. You can use a black screen to wash out most of the burn in.

  3. The black areas won't burn in, but if you watched nothing but non-HD material, it's possible you'll wear out the center of your screen.  But we're talking 1000s of hours of  non-HD TV shows here.

With more and more channels going to HD, not to mention all your DVDs and blu-ray movies, this really shouldn't be much of a problem.  Even video games are just fine on plasma sets, just be sure you don't leave the TV on while you've paused the game for long periods of time.  In general, if you're going to be gone longer than 5 minutes, turn the set off, or at least turn it to local sports game (lots of fast motion is a good way to protect against burn-in.)

  4. the other answers are confused, it wont "burn" where there's no image, it will just wear unevenly where there is image, as compared to where there is none.
