About Housekeeping?

Can anyone help me about different position in house keeping from lowest position up to supervisor?

This is my third season as a housekeeper at a lower-class hotel in Sitka, AK. I took no classes outside of the hotel or in to get my job. Within the housekeeping section there is the supervisor, laundry people, the housekeepers, and the senior housekeeper. Most days there are two laundry persons working, anywhere from 5-7 house keepers (in a 102 room hotel), and the supervisor.

The laundry people stay in the basement of the hotel most all day to fold incoming laundry. Our laundry personnel also fold and wash some of the restaurants laundry and come to the floor to collect housekeepers laundry. They soak the towels and sheets that are stained. Folding personnel monitor the housekeepers stock of linens and towels and procure more from storage if/when needed. They monitor the laundry machines as well and notify the boss if there are any malfunctions. Also, they answer the phone in the basement while the supervisor is out checking rooms. It is both the most and least desirable job depending on who you are because at our hotel those who fold listen to music of their choice all day but they do so standing in a *very* hot room.

Housekeepers generally have between 10 and 19 rooms per day in a hotel of our size. We work officially from 8-3, although most of us come to work at or before 7 AM in order to fold and stock our carts. Most of the time we work alone, though we help each other at the end of the day if anyone finds themselves behind. After all, nobody leaves until the boss has checked all the check-out rooms.  Typically, a check-out will take 30 minutes to clean while a stay-over takes 20 minutes.

Our supervisor writes out our charts of rooms each morning, orders and stocks new cleaning/room supplies, manages the housekeepers, checks rooms before allowing front desk to check people into them, reports any harassment of the housekeepers, prepares a daily budget showing how many housekeepers/laundry persons worked and how many hours each worked. Our supervisor also helps maintenance when there are minor emergencies in the hotel.

The head housekeeper is the housekeeper with the most experience and/or the best technique. In our hotel, she acts as the supervisors relief by learning his job and taking over for a few days each week.

There are classes that you can take....Leader ship and others. Lots of time the place that you work will pay for them.....They are only 2-3 hours long at the local college....
