Question:

About Irish accents?

The Irish accent has been voted sexiest in the world. Great! Except for one thing...which one? West Cork is a d**n sight different to West Dublin when it comes to accents. Cavan and Kerry people sound like they are from different planets to each other. So, when people say they like the Irish accent, which one of the country's many accents are they referring to? This really puzzles me.

  1. I'm French and our accent is s**y as well, for foreigners anyway. Been to Belfast and their accent is awful.

  2. I think they mean the Colin Farrell accent which I think he totally puts on over the top, his brother and sisters have a different accent to him, he sounds like he was raised in the gutter and his family are so posh!

Anyway, I think the Irish accent only sounds s**y if the guy is hot, imagine the same accent from a toothless farmer, not so s**y!

Maybe they are referring to the general irish accent that you hear in American movies, you know the put on one, like in Darby O'Gill and the little people or the Devils Own. I think its quite funny.

Im from meath, and the Navan accent must be the least s**y of all Irish accents..

  3. Have you ever talked to anyone from Louth? Hardest Irish accent to understand.

It's just easier to say "irish" accent just like we're pegged with an "american" accent over there. And Lord knows there are lots of American dialects and English dialects.

  4. I love Irish accents...maybe it was voted so because of Colin Farrell? LOL! I think it should be the Italian accent.

  5. Well my mum comes from county kildare and i like that!!!

But saying that i love them all!!!

  6. Anybody outside of Ireland can't tell one accent from the other!!! I've had people say that "I have a friend who sounds just like you" and it turns out that The friend is from Dublin While I'm from the south east!!!!

    But they're right I do have a d**n s**y accent!!!

Oh and My husband has a totally different accent to me(still s**y tho') and we grew up Six miles apart!!! one in town one in the country!! (big feckin' culchie anyway!!)

  7. Dublin is the best !!!!

  8. Really?!? I'd have to go with the American Southern accent. Irish?!? Well, I'll be....

  9. the rest of the world cant tell the difference between a West Cork accent and a West Dublin accent. What about East Dublin and East Cork anyway? are there 2 different accents in each of those cities? that seems almost impossible.

  10. I think people from outside Ireland don't notice that we have all different accents. It sounds all the same to them.

  11. Meath accents, no doubt about it

and yes there's loads of regional accent variation in Ireland as there is everywhere else

  12. Well it definitely wasn't judged on a midlands accent or the "wesht" for that matter. Certainly not Cork. to quote Tommy Tiernan the brilliant Irish comedian, "The Cork accent sounds like tinkers trying to speak french" Not very s**y. I would go with my own accent.Just cos I have to! The lovely Waterford county accent, not the city accent, they're just wannabe dubs. I don't see how the rest of the world can't distinguish between all the different dialects. You certainly can't generalise the Irish accent. Then again, we don't win things very often so this is a cause for celebration!!

  13. West Cork accents are really good.

  14. one of lifes great mysteries

  15. Actually, I'm from Northern Ireland, studying in England at the moment and I know a few girls who may beg to differ when it comes to the Belfast accent not being as s**y as the Southern accents.

  16. The Terry Wogan Limerick accent(sometimes referred as to West Brit)

  17. They all be lovely.

  18. I KNOW!!!  I found this really strange too.  I can't imagine what accent they are talking about-I am certain that people from other parts of the world can distinguish between Kerry and Dublin, for example.  I would also have to note that v few (if any) of our accents strike me as particularly s**y-e.g. Midlands!!Pure Mule....yuck!

  19. the south

    it is really s**y

  20. Jaysus aye, i do be harin a hape of paypel sayin that and cant get me hed around that at all. Bates the s**+te out me peh. Sorry.
