Question:

About L from Death Note (possible spoilers)....?

So, L's real name is L Lawliet. I'm wondering whether the mangaka wanted to maintain a bit of mystery/secrecy even when revealing his real name. Surely "L" wouldn't be his real/complete first name, would it? I kinda have a feeling that it was left like that on purpose. What do you think?

  1. In 'Another Note' it is stated that L didn't even see himself as being ' L ' . He was only called ' L ' because that is the only name that had the power to move police in every country. Mello guesses that not even L knew which name Rem ended up writing in the death note. I think it would be interesting if L's real name turned out to be ' L ' , but this is Death Note and I wouldn't be surprised if the creators kept L's name a secret forever. Either that, or L is his real name and the creators are just having a laugh at being sneakily obvious about it.

  2. He could have legally changed it to such, which would make it his name

  3. in the LA BB case (which, I know, isn't really part of the series) mello comments that L has so many aliases that it's almost like he has no real name but what was written in the notebook was probably his first name or his legal name.

  4. Personally I think L is his real name. I think it has an ironic effect. Through the whole series, he's this mysterious person and no one is sure of who he is. When they find out his name, he had been telling the truth all along.

  5. i think it would be cool if l was his real name, but i know its not, sorry
