I 'm interested in studing in Milan next year, I found a really interesting course at 'Politecnico di Milano'. Have you heard of it? What is your opinion?

Also, how is life there? And what's the culture of the people like?

  1. Politecnico di Milano is probably the best Engineering Faculty in Italy. For what I know all courses are in Italian, so you should know the language.

Living in Milan is very expensive, especially for a student. The best thing would be sharing an apartment with other people.

You will probably find University courses much harder than in the US, and the university with more bureaucratic problems, but culture, at a University level, is usually deeper and more general (interest in more than just one subject) than in the US.

  2. I am an Irishman living in Italy for 6 years. My wife of 24 years is Italian. Consequently, I speak Italian fluently. (Do you? You will *absolutely* need to...)

Milan is a VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY expensive city. (Got it?) Others here who suggested that you share an apartment with other students/young people are not telling you that that is easier said than done. Why? Because Italy is NOT the friendliest place for a foreigner to be. And you will find it very hard to find someone willing to share with you if you are NOT Italian.

As for the people...not altogether welcoming would be an understatement. Downright rude would be much closer to the truth. Moreover, the price of everything quadruples as soon as they hear that you are not Italian. You will get used to being the last to get served in a shop, but not at being laughed at as you leave it.

    In short, try Spain...

  3. i agree with  periluisa but  there are some univ are english too..yea she is rgt it is expensive..u have to share accom but i suggest do job while studing otherwise florence is a good choice if it is possible.

life is easy going here not like newyork and alll family life style but i tell u it will be a good experience..wellcome to milan

    good luck!!
