  1. males reach sexual maturity at around 6 months..  they can mate and produce pups at any time.

However, he wont be able to perform a tie and get a female pregnant unless she is in heat.. females come into heat around 6 months of age or so.

Dogs also hump out of dominancy.

If you get them spayed and neutered.. then you dont have to worry about surprises!

  2. Take your dog to the vet and have him castrated.  He's old enough.

  3. Call your vet and get an appointment to have him neutered. Puppies can and should be neutered at around 5-6 months of age. You can try to keep them apart but it will be hard and like you said you don't want any suprises and it only take one.

  4. If your cocker spaniel/poodle mix is 8 months old, he's old enough to be fixed and should be ASAP.  That way you won't have any problems.

He may still hump as it's a dominance thing as well.

Your sister's dog may be able to go into heat as early as 4 months, so you need to get Xavier fixed before then.
