  1. We don't even know Will's own birthday--just his baptismal day, April 26, 1564.  Since children were usually baptised when they were three days old, and since he died on April 23, 1616, we've just decided to assume that he was also born on April.23.

  2. Only those of noble birth had their birthdates recorded back in the day.  They just kept track of christening (or baptismal) dates.  In fact, Shakespeare's birthdate wasn't even recorded.  Scholars have just counted backward three days from his baptism date (plus it's cool to say he died on his birthday).

  3. You should look some place besides Wikipedia. Try this website: http://www.pbs.org/shakespeare/events/li...

It gives the years his children were born.

  4. Children were often baptized on the same day as they were born. And often the actual date of birth may not be known. For instance if the child or mother was too ill to travel. I am not sure about that time frame, but my English ancestors often waited months to get their children baptized as by law they had three months to do so. Makes life a wee bit difficult figuring out when a child was born if he was born in December of one year and baptized in the new year.
