Question:

About The Depo Shot or Mini Pill???

I've been on both before years ago to prevent pregnancy. Now I'm 38 and done having kids but my period is so darn heavy I'm thinking I'd like to go back on the pill or depo. When I took them before I had no period which was wonderful. I don't remember having any problems or side effects from either but I'm older now so things might have changed.

What has your experience been with the mini pill or depo? Did you gain weight? I didn't before but my weight seems to creep up easier now. Which pill would you recommend? I can't take estrogen, only the mini's

Thanks!

  1. Have you thought about  Mirena?   The IUD or IUC works great.   I have 2 wonderful kids not wanting anymore.  My doctor suggested it It has lighten my periods to almost nothing if I have one at all.  No weight gain.   My mother even has it.  I am 29 my mom is 49.   It works great for her, she is premenopausalal my spelling is bad today..Lack of sleep 2yr old.    She is not supposed to have extra hormones due to breast cancer running in the family.

I would suggest honestly sitting down with your OB/GYN and talking with him/her about which is right for you.   And they are usually quite open with side effects.   The worst of them I have seen with  Mirena is a little spotting at first.  It even helped with cramps.   Anyway Good luck on your choices.  I wanted to try  depo but I have had many reactions to the pill so my GYN suggested I steer clear  of depo.
