  1. Wal Mart is the answer to one stop shopping and if they have workers who are underpaid and mistreated the same thing happens at Safeway.

  2. the small individual craftsman get driven out by wal marts low costs, we suffer with inferior product and the loss of our independence. As the big globalized corporations take over thier is no room for the individual, just one large state ruled by the corporation. Called Shinra in Final Fantasy or the Umbrella corporation in Resident evil. The theory suggests that free market corporatism will lead to the same end as a communist state. One body in control of all. You work your job and get your coupon for rocket burger lunch. You take the health benefits they give you and when the large corporations make overt or covert monopolies you have no choice but to work for the corporation or one of two corporations.

We find a conflict here between the rights of the corporations, where they say the company is free to compete unmolested even if they subvert us all in the process. I think it is important for people to see the end it will lead to though that I outline above. The corporations must be reigned in i think, because I love my freedom and opportunity to grow and compete. We need venues for the little guy and options for him.

Lacking any hope of govt help, we the people must do our part. We must be conscious shoppers as so many have tried to tell us in the past and we didn't understand (different people had thier different reasons for saying it i suppose). We must use our powers as consumers to support small business and individuality. Do our best to maintain a patchwork of small business rather than support these global things which seem scary and up to no good at times. Some would argue that wars and governments rise and fall on the needs of Haliburton and other major players. Opening places such as myanmar up to foriegn investment and exploitation. Sierra Leon is a free market and it has not benefited the people there.

  3. As much as I really do hate walmart, they are usually cheaper .

  4. wal mart has a bad effect on the community, competition is lost, they pretty soon go BK due to everyone going to the cheaper place to buy stuff, then because Wal Mart has the monopoly they can set the employees wages low.... once Walmart has knocked out all competition then they can increase their prices if they want to.  wal mart is growing all over the world so their is no limit.

  5. WalMart is a benefit to the community it is built in because it brings jobs for the average worker with no skills... high school kids, housewives who want part time work, people who couldn't do the college thing (or felt no need to), and also for the people who benefit by the low prices on a lot of items. Worker wages and benefits I'm not sure about, but if someone doesn't like them, then they don't need to apply for a job there. WalMart may continue to grow, not because they are an evil corporation like many people say, but because people actually like to shop there and there is a reason to keep growing. Economic impact, I'm not sure on a global scale, but in my family economy it helps A LOT! We don't have much money and I need to get the help where ever I can.  We don't qualify for public assistance and we don't make a lot of money for our family of 4. Incidentally, my town has a WalMart being built soon, and I can't wait. Not only will I save on gas money (I will be able to walk there), but I will be able to more easily save money (right now I have to drive a couple towns over and I don't like to, so I spend more in the stores nearby). Also, I would be keeping sales tax money right in my own neighborhood.  I am also going to apply for a job there when they come.

  6. Walmart saves shoppers money. I can careless how it affects the workers wages, those people choose to work there! Walmart is all over the world is huge.
