I hurt myself at work lifting a very heavy item. My back is hurting so bad ...... I have not turned it into workers comp or even complained to the owner..... because I am afraid I will lose my job, which would render me without income .. I have responsibilities raising two kids and bills to pay... what should I do.. It hurts really really bad!

  1. you need to file a workers comp claim, you simply cannot continue to work with your back in pain. What good will you be to your kids if you lose your health. Jobs will come and go, file your claim, right now...

  2. You need to file a workers compensation claim for the injury.  You will need to be seen by the company doctor.  He can't fire you for filing a workers comp claim

  3. Call your state workers comp office to find it if your employer can retaliate. Don't wait too long...

  4. absolutely you should have reported it immediately

if you go to work tomorrow with a bad back and a boss willing to fire you, he could just as easily say

"you hurt your back at home, and cant do your job, your fired"

as soon as you file a workman's comp claim and it's approved by the state your employer cannot legally fire you for your back injury

and if it happens at work, they pay ALL medical expenses and medical leave

if you left work, I sure hope you have some witnesses to your accident

    :(

  5. The damage to your back could be severe enough to disable you for life.  Risking your employer's wrath is a small price to pay.
