We have a 4 yr old mustang/arab. He is a gelding and has been broke, but hasn't been ridden too much. He seems kind of wild and needs to be ridden. And it has been quite a while since he was last sat on. He was raised by a man too, so I am also wondering if that has any bearing on a woman trying to work with him? Is there any advice to be given on such a horse? I dont want to be bucked off or anything!

  1. ok looks like u need to go for a walk....To get him to bond with u talk him 4 walks daily. also he will need to be semi-retrained ut a lung line on talk him in to a round-pin with a saddle in work him foe a couple of days also when he was ridden what kinda head gear did he use ??

  2. free lunge him first [without a lunge line] and when youre ready to ride him get on and sit there until hes completely comfortable, but be ready for anything. and when you get on, if he does anything, let him do it, but give him the correct commands for it as he does it. he'll remember.

  3. I would suggest lunging him for a little while first. You don't have to have formal training, just know the basics. If you have a round pen you can free lunge him. I would spend some time with him before getting on. Although, a horse doesn't really forget things like this. If you are going to get on him, lunge him a little with tack first. Teach him voice commands like "woah".

Before you get on, lean on his back, make sure he's okay with the weight. Thats really all I can think of.

If I was you I would lunge him with tack, then hop on him. If he's broke, he should be fine.
