I was told to write who my favorite sports team was. What I don't understand is it got returned back to me because a paper of statistics is not original. Doesn't that make it original, what I mean is if you don't have statistics how could you prove why that team is your favorite team?

  1. While your arguments are probably sound when talking baseball, there must be something wrong with the way you are presenting for english class.  I think the paper is supposed to be more about you, rather than about the sports team.

Can you relate your thoughts about this pitcher to your life in some way?  What impact has this person made on your life?  What qualities do you admire about this person?  Is there a memorable moment involving this person?  What did that moment mean to you?  I think your teacher wants this to be from the "Human interest" section of the newspaper, not from the sports page.

  2. Talk to your teacher about it.

  3. where did you get that statistics from. It depends on that. Ask her what she wants and ask your teacher if she wants a work-cited list or what.. Talk to her. That's the only way you can help yourself.

  4. I think your problem is you are choosing your favorite team based on statistics. If this is an English assignment, you should write about the passion you have for that sports team and the reasons you like them, for example you grew up loving them and everyone else in your family loves them too so you have something to bond about. If you are choosing your favorite team based on their good statistics, you are a fair weather fan and don't deserve to be a fan. Loving a sports team takes years of committment, not a year of good statistics and wins.

Your teacher is right, you need to make some original thoughts, not just cite statistics. Statistics will only prove a team is good, and it's shallow to like a team just for thier success.
