About babies heart beats!?!?

Today I had my first sonogram on my second pregnancy, shows that my baby is 12 weeks and its heart beat is at 122. My question is will that heart beat get stronger or is that it! We are shooting for the heart beat to be over 140 because we are trying for a girl, we have three boys!

My guess is yes it will get stronger as it forms more organs, well ok I am telling myself that it is high for how old it is! lol, wishful thinking I guess!

No rude comments please, it's just a question not life or death!!

  1. anything from 110 to 160 is normal according to my doc..I'm sure that if your ob was worried he would let you know. all babies are different so don't freak! at my ten week apt the hr was 144 and when we went back it was 160 at almost 15wks so they can change i guess! good luck!

  2. At 12 1/2 weeks my baby's was 155/156.

  3. I think that's going to be around your average. I could be wrong, but my baby's heartbeat was 150-155 starting at 10 weeks and has remained around there. But, that's just my experience, it could increase for you. Good luck :)

ETA: The normal heartbeat range is 120-180 beats per minute. Your baby is within the normal range. If the doctor was concerned, he/she would have said something. If you're still concerned, call your doctor for peace of mind. :)

  4. More than likely it will get slightly stronger, but not too much more. And trust me, the heartbeat thing is really just a myth. I've talked to a ton of people whose babies had heart rates between 140-160 and they had boys. Everyone is different.

EDIT-- Stop worrying. This site, and many others, say that normal fetal heartbeat ranges from 120-160 beats per minute. http://www.drspock.com/article/0,1510,98...

  5. i had my ultra sound and the heart beat was 160 or higher and i was only 10 weeks and 1 day when i got it. good luck and congrats

  6. Not to discourage you, but my baby's was 167 at ten weeks... I'm hoping the old wives' tales are TRUE for me because I would love a girl. Not that I wouldn't love a boy, mind you. It is possible for it to get higher, or the baby may have been a sleep then... Good luck!

  7. I've had two boys and each time their heart rates were 150-160.  I don't know if that determines the s*x of the baby.  Good Luck!  I now have two stepsons also, for a total of 4 boys!  Heaven help us! :)
