Question:

About becoming a motocross pro?

I really want to be a motocross pro when I'm older, but I'm already almost 16 and I've barely riden at all. Most pros have been riding since they were a lot younger. Do you think I still have a good chance to go pro if I start riding now? What is the average salary of a motocross pro?

  1. You have to practice alot and go to alot of the big races around the United States and to even get noticed by big sponsors you have to place in the top five consistently.

It's a long hard road to make it big in Motocross Racing or any kind of Motorcycle Racing it takes dedication, pain and tears and there will be times your going to feel like giving up....Don't!, We all went through that just stay true to your game.

Your almost 16 you still have a chance to make it too Pro standings if you want too, But you would have to go hardcore and practice and race all the time.

Call around to all of the local MX tracks in your city and surrounding areas and get the schedules of their racing and practice days/nights. That means your parents are in full support of you racing dirt bikes, Right.

You do still need to find a part-time job to fit in to your schedule of school and racing and that is something that is very important....Do not slack off at school!!! Keep your grades up! and still look forward to college too because you can be a Pro Motocross Racer and have a College  Education.

    Good Luck

  2. I don't mean to put a damper on your ambition and I wish you well but most riders that turn pro have been working at perfecting the ability to ride and race since they were in kinda.  Being a girl (at lease I assume you are with your avatar) you may have a better chance at achieving in the sport and I know where I live girls get a lot easier go in the sport possibly due to the fact that not as many girls are willing to put it on it line.

You really need to start at the beginning and practise, practise, practise and if you have any natural ability then it is a natural progression in the sport.  You have to start winning events and get noticed and once noticed hopefully pick up a sponsor.

I wouldn't worry too much about how much pro's make as there is so many levels of success and only the best make the big money.  There are a lot more of those who want to be the best than those who are. Even if you did go into the sport hoping to make money I would suggest that you work hard at school so you have something else as the chances of making it in the motocross world are not that good.

  3. It all depends on if you have the talent naturally. Some people are born with it. Others have to practice to reach the pro level. I would tell you to stick with it even if you don't become pro. Its a awesome sport! The salary of Bubba Stewart right now is close to 5 million dollars. Keep riding and never give up!

  4. My son has been riding since he was 4 years old...  he has won 2 nationals amateur events and it has been a crazy time... however, there is always a possibly but you really have to get out there and ride...  you need to prove yourself now! the time for pro opportunity is age 16...    you need to go out there now and prove yourself and apply for sponsorships... my son is 13 years old and has several sponsors already and they are watching him for the pro's.... so the difficulty is there.... but never give up on your dreams if this is truly what you want and you have talent... if you truly are learning and never rode before it may be a dream beyond your reach.. it really truly depends on you and where your capabilities are... best of luck!!

  5. Sorry but most pros are drafted into the big show by their late teens and have been racing for at lest 10 years at that point. Trust me, you don't need to be a pro to enjoy motocross. I enjoyed racing much more back in my C class days. I now race at the A class level and things just get so serious that a lot of the fun kind of gets pushed to the side. You have sponsors that count on you to finish on the podium and many people expect so much more out of you. Just go race your local tracks and enjoy, once you reach the higher levels it starts feeling more like a job than a hobby.

  6. Ashley Fiolek just turned pro this season and she reportedly makes 50 thousand a season.....sadly the gilrs dont make near the money the guys do...... she has been racing for half her life and is blindingly fast. the womens classes have been getting better and the competition is very stiff.  the fastest girls ride 6 days a week and have very supportive families.  dont worry about going pro.... just race for fun.even in the higher ranks of amatures there is a huge committment of time and money.
