About car pick up and clutch plate?

I own a 2001 Hyundai Accent that is suposed to be 1500 cc but the pick up is such as if its a 500 cc car. Could it be becasue of the worn out clutch or some other reason. The clutch is a known problem.

Apart from that, the pick up is severely low.

  1. If there is a clutch problem, you would notice the RPMs spiking upon acceleration. The clutch would have totality failed by now if it had been slipping for any length of time.

By spiking, I mean once you accelerate the RPM climb quickly, but the speed does not increase.  If this is not the case, then you could be using too high of a gear.  Try shifting down before you accelerate.

  2. could be if its sliping real bad replace it. and give it a tune up, those cars arent that fast.
