  1. All beer drinking choice is subjective. Just as with food we each have are preferences. Dark beers can be very pleasing. I like them due to their malty character. The BJCP will have many examples for you to search out from a particular dark style.

    Schwerz Beer

    Porters

    Stouts

    Belgian Browns

    Bocks

He is correct about Chimay not be a doublebock. Review these beer styles which give complete discriptors for a particular beer style and some commercial examples are listed.

    18B. Belgian Dubbel

Perhaps RickyRed above confused a Belgian Dubbel with a Double bock.

    18D. Belgian Golden Strong Ale

  2. Dark beer is what beer drinking is about. It's where the flavor is. Never drank Inglin, but love Guiness, the stouts and porters, and have recently been drinking Chimay. It's a doppelbock that absolutely rocks! Make sure you're drinking it out of a proper glass so that you can get the aroma of the beer and the flavor of the cloves. If you drink it from the bottle, it tastes like an IPA.

  3. In general, dark beers tend to be more flavorful than the pale ones, maltier and less hoppy-tasting. Barleywine is very heavily hopped but, because of the high amount of malt used, doesn't taste like it.

BTW, Chimay is a Belgian, not a doublebock. Both are delicious.

  4. Never had inglin beer, but dark beer messes with my bowels.  Good though, but still gives me problems.
