My friend is turning 18 in a month and she wants to drive. She has no driver's license or any driving experience yet.

Her questions are:

Does she still need to get a permit?

Does she need to get a driver's education certificate and/or driver's training certificate?

  1. Age has nothing to do with it.  EVERYBODY has to get a permit.  Here are the basic steps.

    (1) go to DMV and pick up driver manual

    (2) study

    (3) go back and take the written test - pass

    (4) with the learner's permit practice driving

    (5) you might have to take the 5 hour class

    (6) take the road test - pass

    (7) be happy.

If she is 18 then she does NOT need to take driver's ed (don't confuse that with the 5 hour course that EVERYBODY needs to take).

The permit show that you understand the laws and rules of driving.  The road test shows that you know how to operated a car.  You need to take both tests.

    Good Luck...

  2. Yes, she'll need to be on a permit for 30 days.  Then she can get her license.  I believe that is the law.

  3. if your 18 or over you dont have to get a permit or you dont have to take drivers ed you can practice driving then go take your license test
