Does anyone know how easily a couple from Burma could emigrate to the US during the early 1950s (after Burma became independent from the United Kingdom in 1948)?

Thank you very much. :)

  2. It must have been pretty easy till  1954 when the  Ellis Island closed, marking an end to mass immigration. The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) of 1952 (Also known as the McCarran-Walter Act) restricted immigration into the U.S. and is codified under Title 8 of the United States Code.
