right now i am attending Everest College for dental assisting. i will be done in may and then off i go to regular college while working. i want to become a dental hygienist at pasadena city college here in california.

now, i did really bad in high school and dropped out. i recently got my GED in july (yay me!) but i've been out of high school for 3 years and i did attend community college, but i messed up those three years too. i only completed one class out of those 3 years and i got a c.

now, if i wanted to enter the dental hygiene program, do you think they would accept me into the program with this background?

thanks.

  1. the dental assisting course you did in everest college will not be given any credit. you can still check with the councellor and ask them to guide you through the course. moreover, you have to have a stable mind in order to be a dental hygienist.

    good luck.

  2. Well getting a GED will have nothing to do with you not being able to get in. The question is if your score is high enough. Also, the fact that you went to CC makes you a transfer student, regardless of how many classes you did or didn't take.

  3. Most likely no. If you wanted to revive yourself what you may need to do is get a few years experience (2 - 5 years) as a dental technician / assistant and complete a few general college courses at your expense. Once you have completed a few classes and completed a few years work experience the argument can be made that you are ready for the rigors of the dental hygienist program.

  4. depending on the requirements for your college, you might want to retake the classes you didnt do well on and try to make atleast an A or B some colleges offer health programs that take you to getting a degree, which some of these programs require that you are accepted into it before you even start the core course. And most of the time the classes you have to take require a certain GPA to even apply for the program BUT remember all schools are different and the best place you might find answers is the school you are going to.
