  1. There was an American general (Clark? Green?) who wanted to turn the war into a full-blown guerrilla operation, but Washington would have none of it, as he feared the effect after the war of the antagonisms it would engender.

  2. In reference to the American Revolution and in fact with most any conflict Guerrilla Warfare is used to refer to what can also be dubbed 'terrorist tactics,' the use of small forces sometimes as few as a dozen men (and sometimes women) who strike at a target under conditions of stealth and then 'fade into the night.'  Guerrilla Warfare is marked less by set battles but more by strategic strikes at an enemies supplies & places of assembly.  Thought not often cited as a Guerrilla action, George Washington's 'Battle of Trenton' serves as a good example;;;  the German/Hessian Forces Occupying Trenton New Jersey were sleeping off a Christmas Drunk when Washington crossed the ice strewn Delaware River in the darkest of storm tossed Nights, striking at Dawn against the Hessian.

But most often Guerrilla Warfare during the Revolution was what in other times would be called criminal activity.  For example the British held New York City and much of Long Island - - - American 'Guerrillas' struck repeatedly at the British supply of Cattle, driving away herds of Cattle so much so that soon the British to import Salted Beef & Pork from Ireland - - - I am talking about rancid salted beef often packed by unscrupulous 'victulers' who prided themselves on stealing easy gotten Government grants while wrecking the digestive systems of British soldiers.  Soon the British soldiers were squatting over sh^t holes groaning in agony while trying to empty their bowels instead of fighting the Rebels!!!

Guerilla Warfare can also be noted as sending people deep inside an enemy camp to burn important buildings - - - and to kidnap important figures and to engage in others acts of sabotage.
