About high school exchange programs?

Does being in Math Essentials instead of the regular math (math essentials is for people who aren't good at math) affect being accepted. I'm guessing they probably won't accept you, even if you get good grades in everything else, but I'm not completely sure. I'm not in Math Essentials yet and I'm trying to improve my math. I won't be forced to take it even if I fail math, but I just want to know.

  1. I dont think grades have anything to do with it, because the exchange students at our school get put into easy classes anyway just because their english isnt perfect.

    hope this helped?

  2. My daughter went to Mexico City with the AFS.  I helped her fill out her application and it never asked about grades.  Here's the Canadian site: http://www.afscanada.org/can_en/home

  3. If you have a good grade in it, I don't think it will really matter all that much. They look at your GPA to see if you are capable of handling high school level work. If you have a weak subject -- a lot of people do! (Besides, the interviewer probably won't even know what Math Essentials is! I wouldn't if you didn't tell me. They will just see a math grade.)

To the above poster -- not sure about YOUR exchange students, but the ones in our school routinely enroll in very difficult classes, including AP History, AP Government and AP Calculus!

  4. I travelled with Rotary and I don't remember them asking about classes. I think your determination and GPA are what counts more than that.
