  1. 3-5 years seems to be about normal, but just like people, some die early in spite of good care, and other betta can make it to 8 years.

So at 4 years, it's getting elderly, but you have obviously looked after it well.

  2. You are doing a great job, because most bettas live up to 2-3 years. I had a betta that lived for seven years, but this is very unusual. Keep on taking good care of your fish!! (And find a name for him lol.)

  3. Average is 3-4 years with proper care more towards 4+ years.

  4. most beta fish can live for up to 5 years with good caring for but others can only live for up to 3 years so your doing a great job :)

  5. Anywhere from 3-5 years with proper care(At least a 1 gallon tank, temp kept about 75F and fed a varied diet)

  6. Most people don't care for their betta (pronounced bet-tah, not bay-tah) very well and not many live as long as yours has.  You have apparently done a good job.

In the wild, they can live up to 5 years.  In a well maintained, heated and filtered aquarium, they can live up to 7 years and I have heard of some that lasted up to 10 years in a lab setting with perfect conditions and high protein food.

There is no telling how old your finny friend was when you purchased him, but you can estimate that he was around 6-8 months old when he was shipped to the retailer.

A good name would be Methusela.... (old guy from the Bible, 900 years or thereabouts).

  7. 3-5 years if cared properly
