  1. You want to interact with your bird as often as you can, yet making sure they also have some alone time as well. I suggest 5-15 minutes of direct interaction every 1-3 hours and indirect interaction of having them in the same room with you while you watch tv, do dishes, laundry, etc at least 2 hours out of your day.

Direct interaction can include callback- the bird whistles and you whistle back, feeding treats from your hand, or playing with one of their toys to encourage them to play with it as well. Talking to your bird, singing to it or just doing it in the vicinity of your bird is great interaction!

  2. try 15-20min or more sessions maybe every two or 3 hours during the day. depends if hes really freakedout or onot.

  3. Start slow and work your way up to more time.  If he/she is really new to your home they need some time to calm down a bit.  Once he's settled in the more time you spend with your bird the better.  You could never spend toooo much time with them.  I just answered another question about interacting with a budgie a few mins ago.  I believe their question was how do I start a relationship with my new parakeet.  Take a peek at it.  It's just about developing a relationship with your bird, and having your bird start to trust you.  Once that happens, the sky is the limit as to how much love and fun you can have with them..

Good luck with your new birdy.
