About how many hours would it take to drive from Florence, Italy to Rome?

I'm trying to figure out if it is reasonable to drive to Rome for a day. I'm coming from a villa in Tuscany that is about an hour away from Florence (or so I'm told). The place I'll actually be driving from is closer to Lucca. I want to take a day trip to Rome, but I'm not sure if we should get a place in Rome, or if we should try to drive there and drive back the same day. Any suggestions?

  1. Florence to Rome is a 2-hour drive on the motorway. Lucca to Rome is less than 3 hours via Florence. It will take you nearly 5 along the coast. Driving in Rome not to mention parking is another story all together. It may take you an hour to get to the center and an hour to park. Why not take the train. Check out the schedule on http://www.trenitalia.com/ .

  2. Um when i was on my contiki tour in a bus with having to take a number of stops i am pretty sure it took us like 5 hours maybe more? If i am thinking of the right place!!! I might be thinking of pur drive from Venice to Florence, No actually yeah i think it was 5 hours? I think... LOL Worst answer ever

If you catch the train be careful!!! There are pickpockets and i nearly got squashed to death on a train in Rome, i honestly thought i was going to die!!!
