  1. I'm assuming you are talking about your internet connection.  The best you can do with a phone line is 56kbps.  Assuming you have access to broadband, most cable service providers offer service between 1.5mbps to 10mbps (1mbps = 1000kbps) download speeds, but unless you are doing a lot of downloading (torrents for example), anything from about 512kbps will be perfectly fine for browsing the web.

    Upload speeds are nearly always slower for home broadband (the ISP is trying to prevent you from running a server out of your home...if you want to do that, they want you to pay more for a business line).  They frequently are limited to 128kbps, sometimes they are as high as 1mbps.  Obviously, the higher the better, but you don't really need anything too great since you probably aren't running a server :).


  2. I run about 6 Mbps down and about 560 Kbps up with my local cable company. (Note each Mbps is 1024 Kbps) Use www.speedtest.net to test your connection speed.

  3. About 50 Mbps is a very fast wireless connection; raw connection.
