  1. It depends on the kind--I've found varieties that range from 20mg to 70mg per grain.  It's somewhere between 300kg and 1000kg, and is probably closer to the low end (the 70mg variety was a special crop, and most seemed to fit in the 25-35mg range).

    14160 * 20mg * 1kg/1,000,000mg = 0.2832kg

    14160 * 70mg * 1kg/1,000,000mg = 0.9912kg

I would recommend writing the people who run the site (I poked around some to see if they included information about the type of rice they donate or similar issues; obviously no one is counting out each grain of rice to donate individually) and asking them to make this information public!  I know it feels more productive to have contributed 1000 grains of rice rather than 0.020kg of rice, but it would be nice to have the formula there somewhere.

  2. LOL! As soon as I saw your question, I went to freerice.com to see if the answer was in their FAQs, it wasn't, so I've actually sent them an email asking how many grains to the kilo.

They'll probably be too busy to respond but one never knows! I'll save your question and edit my response if I do hear from them.

  3. first you have to know the weight of the rice.
