I have taken care of the bike very well. Cleaned it regularly and it is garage kept. I have a specialized transition comp 2006 model. I have about 2700 miles on the bike and was just wondering when it would be a good idea to replace the shifters and cassette and the derailleurs and crank and all that good stuff

  1. as long as you arent having an issue with shifting, there is no set time or milage to replace most of what you have mentioned.  shifters and derailers last for many, many miles.  my ultegra shifters rattle some after a couple wrecks, but i couldnt even begin to guess how many miles are on them.  well over 10,000 i am sure.  the same with my 105 derailers.

the things subject to wear such as cables, chain and cogset are recommended to be replaced.  once a year, in the late fall after the season ends, i replace the cables and chain.  i dont replace the cogs unless i have a problem, but some recommend it, believing the new chain should wear in on a new cogset.  to each thier own, but i just do the chain.

  2. I'd replace the chain now if you haven't yet. Otherwise you can replace as needed. At some point the cassette and chain rings will need replacing. If you keep your chain clean and replace every 2000 or so miles they can last through several chains. The rest - may last decades. I had a full 1994 105 bike with about 15,000 miles I just sold. As far as the drive-train - it had about 6 chains, 1 replaced cassette - that's it. Chain-rings are still good and the bike is mechanically flawless.

If you take care of the bike and don't race the stuff can last a long, long time.
