  1. parrots could cost from anywhere between $75 to a couple thousands!!!!

if you want the "cheap route" then I would consider lovebirds, cockatiels, senegal parrots, conures, or quaker parrots

these birds cost from $50 to $500

the more expensive parrots are macaws, african greys, amazons, ect

  2. Depends on what kind you want.  A little parakeet you can find for about $20.00 or you can go to the big parrots and spend a lot more.  I have an African Grey that I bought for $1500.00 I have a Peach Front Conure that I  bought for $250.00 and then I have 2 Cockatiels one I bought for $20.00 from a breeder and one was one of my babies that I bred. I bought one Parakeet for $20.00 and got 4 of them for free. I just got a Sun Conure for free. You might want to check out my site I have a Bird Breeder Directory where you can look into birds and prices from breeders who hand tame them. Also you can normally find birds cheaper from breeders than you can the pet stores. There is also a forum on the site that has classifieds you might find some birds that are free or for a good price on there. http://myjungle.net

  3. There are a lot of different types, and I suggest you research them a little more. And sometimes the cheapest isn't always the best. It may cost you more in the long run later  =/

  4. Obviously the pet store will know better.  We can't possibly know where you are on the planet, or what kind of money you use.

But keep this in mind.  Parrots aren't the kind of thing you want to buy "cheap".  If somebody wants to sell one cheap, there is probably something wrong with it.  It could have feather plucking problems, it might scream, it might bite.

Save your pennies and get one from a reputable breeder.  Talk to some people at the local bird club to know where to go and how much to spend.

Buy a cheap parrot and you are probably buying trouble.

  5. Hi,

How much does a parrot cost??

We have a quaker that did not cost anything.

    Execpt for:

    a Cage $150.00,

Yearly Vet vists $200.00 a year.

    Fresh daily food $3.00 a day $1,000 a year..

    Medication $120.00 a year.

Toys... (We make our own)  $150.00 each year

That comes to Almost $1,700.00 for the first year, not bad for a free bird... And that is a cheap bird....

We also have 3 Macaws at double that to $3,400.00 a year for each bird.

African Greys and Amazon, we have 11 of these guys at 2,000.00 a year for each bird...

So the price for the bird is nothing at all and should not even be considered...

Yes it is that expensive to keep parrots and some may say that I under estm the ammounts...

  6. It depends on what kind of parrot. They will sell really cheap ones at flea markets.

  7. Most likely you want a parrot because you want a bird that talks. In that case the larger birds, but they are more expensive. You need to do some research first. Parrots are demanding and people return them because of a lack of knowledge of how to handle them. What to do when they bite, squawk, etc. Check out some books at the library first. Some avian clubs have an adoption program for a fee but they want experienced bird owners. They can't just be caged all the time. They are intelligent and need to interact more than some people are ready for.

  8. Depends which kind.

    Love Bird:75-200

    Lorikeets: 300-600

    Senegal Parrot:200-500

    African Grey:800-200

    Amazon:600-1500

    Cockatoo:800-5000+

    Macaws: 800-5000+

I suggest you do a bit more research.  Parrots are expensive birds to buy and need service from your veterinarian.  They also need a proper cage as well as diet, and temperature.

Parrots are also very social birds and require  A LOT of attention.  It is a big commitment and you need to make sure you are ready.

  9. You don't get a particular parrot species just because it's the "cheapest".  You get it because you've done enough research to know that it's the right kind of pet for your lifestyle and that you can and want to give it proper care throughout its life, which can be a long time.  Also, all parrots are expensive to care for... cages that are safe and big enough for the species you want can cost a lot, and you will need an avian vet because you can't expect your pet to stay perfectly healthy all its life (that's just not a realistic expectation even if you take outstanding care of it; they are alive, therefore they can get sick and hurt), and refusing to go to the vet when there's a problem is cruel.
