Question:

About how much do fish breeders make selling to a pet store?

I was just surfing and have come across people who are getting into the breeding business. So it got me wondering.

Are there any special permits you need in your part of the world in order to sell to your pet store?

Has anyone who is doing this actually made an income good enough to breed fish for a living?

I think it's interesting.

I myself would never have the patience to breed fish.

  1. Yes you need special permits but that depends on where you live and the regulations regarding state and local government.  If you are breeding to sell to stores (whole sale volume) you not only need to be registered, inspected and licensed to do so.

Yes I make a good living breeding show and breeding stock of koi and goldfish.

I don't sell to fish stores.  No I do not check the knowledge of the people I sell to since most of them are breeders as well.  I do not sell to unregistered or unlicensed groups or people.

  2. it depend how many fish their are and wat kind of fish they are but say if you only had ten you would get 200 dollars

  3. Honestly, fish breeding is a rewarding fun hobby...but don't expect to make any money! Usually stores just give you store credit for the fish, not cash. If you sell them to actually people you may make a little after you have sold a lot to pay of the cost for spawning tanks and fry foods and big 55+ gallon grow out tanks, so maybe you make a few bucks after you have been doing it for a few years.

  4. HELLO I AM A FIH EXPERT, GUPPYS ARE REALLY GOOD TO BREED JUST HAVE  DOUBLE THE AMMOUNT OF FEMALES TO MALES AND THEY HAVE FRY IN THE NEXT WEEK, YOU CAN TAKE THEM TO YOU FISH STORE AND TRADE THEM IN THE STORE FOR CREDIT, OR MONEY =] YOU DONT NEED A PERMIT
