  1. Ski length shouldn't matter in price- at least for adult skis.

For a decent used set-up, with everything included, I would probably think you'd be spending at least $300.  I wouldn't pay any less than that- or I would start to be suspicious.  Try to get the best you can for the most you can afford.

  2. The boots are the most important and should be the first equipment to buy. You keep boots much longer than the rest of the equipment. You should be willing to invest in boots. I say be prepared to spend around $200 on your first boots. You want to get the most comfortable boots. The problem with used boots is that the molding will already set for the previous owner's feet. You have to be really lucky to find used boots that work with you. No matter how cheap they are, do not buy them if they are not comfortable. Walk in them for literally hours at home. Return them if they hurt or strain your feet. If they hurt you while walking around, they will kill you while skiing.

Buy used poles. New poles do not give you anything extra. For your height, your ideal pole size is 44"-45" (110-113cm). 46" (115cm) is just a bit too long but still useable. You should be able to get them for $10 or less.

As far skis/bindings, you have to demo them first before buying. Buying skis is like buying jeans. It is never one kind fits all. Try several models on several lengths before settling down. Demoing 10 pairs before buying is not excessive at all. The more you demo, the better pair you will end up with.

  3. "Let it snow" has given you the right answer

my local shop supplies a bunch of the resorts around here with their rental equipment then sells that equipment the next year skis generally go for less than $100. Try a good ski shop first before play it again. The ski patrol holds a ski swap at the beginning of the season and alot of the shops donate some pretty decent NEW equipment which sells fairly cheaply

I sold last years volkl race tigers gs racestocks with marker 18 pistons and raceplates for $300(these skis only saw snow maybe 3 or 4 times) so yes you can find "good" skis for under 3 bills.

L' it S' is also right on the money about boots...good boots are very important. Blow your whole budget on boots and then just rent any old pair of sticks until you've found the skis  that u really want and that fit within your budget

ps. any cheap pole will do just make sure you size them right...surprising how many bad habits you can pick up trying to ski with poles that are the wrong length

  4. Actually, I have paid $200 twice now for a good pair of skis. One pair from a resort ski shop worker, and another from Play it Again.

But if you want the boots, those will be about $100 at least. I actually don't recommend used boots. They never seem to mold well to the second person. Poles are only about $5 usually.

Ski size doesn't affect price. The same brand will sell for the same price, in a variety of sizes.
