About how much does a college professor get paid at a small, expensive private college? How about a large state university?

  1. The pay scales vary, but the National Education Association has this information for the entire country.  Since I get sent a brochure from the Texas Faculty Association (a branch of the national organization) every year with a complete breakdown of salaries at every college and university in the entire country, I know they have the information.  You should be able to locate an address for them (in Austin, Texas) or drop them an e-mail online, and save yourself the need to guess.

  2. An associate professor (i.e. untenured) makes about $61,000 to 83,000.  Most make a little less at a state university.  Once you have tenure you make around $100,000+.
