About how much does insurance increase with adding a 15 and a half year old male to an insurance policy.?

The additional driver has a 3.8 GPA and still has a Temporary Permit. This is for Ohio ..

  1. There are things you can do to help minimize the extra cost.

    It's great he has a good GPA.  That is one thing that is used to determine the rates.

    If you own more than one vehicle, choose the one with the lowest insurance cost as the one he will drive the most.  He will still be covered driving any other cars on your policy, but the amount for his coverage will be lower.  

    You may be able to balance out the higher premium by increasing your deductible.  Just put the difference you're saving away, in case there is an incident.

    When he leaves for college, let your insurance company know that he won't be driving regularly again until the next summer.


  2. Depends if you are talking about full coverage or just liability coverage. With liability my premium went up $400 a year when I listed my child as a driver on my policy.
