  1. In the Seattle area a quick wax is between $15-$25 depending on the shop and the time of the season.  Take them in Monday for a Wednesday pick up may be cheaper than Thursday or Friday for a Friday night pick up.

I hot wax my skiis with an old iron from a thrift shop.  Wax is applied to the iron which is dripped on the bases, then a quick pass with the iron to melt it into the base.  The wax should not  smoke, it should melt quickly and iron fast. The iron should not stick just glide over the surface.

The wax is then scraped to a thin layer and removed from the edges.  Use a wide drywall knife to scrape the skiis.

I hot wax mine every 3-4 days of use, and sharpen the edges every 7-8 days of use.  It makes skiing so much easier and enjoyable.

              Hope this helps.  Jim.

  2. You can get a quick wax for as little as $5 at some places.  Probably $5-$20.  It depends on where you go.

If you learn to do your own waxing you can save a lot of money.  Go to the swix web page or racewax.com web page to see how to do it and what you need.

  3. $10-$15 is the going rate at most resorts for a hot wax.

$30 will usually get you a hot wax and sharpening.

$45 will get you all of that plus a basic tune-up (binding check and minor base work.)

Big scratches and dents will cost more to fix as will things like base leveling and binding work.

If you ski a lot, it's best to learn how to so your own waxing. It doesn't take long and it saves you $$$ in the long run. An old Iron and a pack of wax is about the same cost as one wax job and you can get a season out of a wax stick if you don't waste it.

If you only ski 2-3 times a year then it's worth having the shop do it.

Costs to have it done right at the resort are about the same as they are at a ski shop, so it doesn't matter where you pay to get it done.

  4. i would just buy a cheap iron for like 7$ and a bar of base wax and do it yourself. where i live it cost 30$ at get it done so i do it myself. a 7$ bar of base wax has lated me an entire season so its a good idea to do it yourself if you want to save a lot of money.

  5. 10-20 for wax 30 for wax and sharpening.
