I have a 2001 VW Cabrio and the ABS warning light came on today. I was curious to how much money I'm looking at spending to repair them. Thanks for your help!

  1. One place you can use to do price checking on car repairs is on Driverside.com – you can drill down to specific cars cause I think the price will change based on the car like a VW Cabrio. They are still in beta but they have a ton of data on what car parts and repairs should cost. I used them for my last repair.

  2. Raw cost is anywheres from $100 to $400 for the parts for all 4 brakes.  It is really just the brake sensor saying you need new brake pads.  Price varies from lowest end non-OEM to highest end direct from VW parts. Labor should be probably 1 hour tops, so add on another $50 to $100 (usually around $75 an hour).

  3. That would depend on what's wrong with them. Usually the cheapest fix is if you need a new wheel sensor. Just having some loose rust stuck to them can make them not work. (they're magnetic) I don't have a price handy for that particular car. It might be integral to the wheel bearing, which would be higher.

One thing it definitely does not mean, is that you just need new brake pads.
