About how much does it cost to repair misfiring pistons?

I have a 2001 VW Passat with 135,000 miles on it. The repair garage guy said that he doesn't know how much it will cost because he isn't sure what's causing them to misfire. If anyone could give me an approximate amount this might cost it'd be greatly appreciated.

a piston dont misfire. it,s probably a bad plug or a plug wire, or if it,s got a distributor cap, it can cause it, but not a piston.

! you don't repair misfiring pistons, because pistons don't misfire, spark plugs misfire, ignition systems misfire, but pistons are the instrument that keeps the spark from going into the bowels of the engine.  So look you're looking for some kind of miracle, like an approx cost.

You'll have to go down your list and check it out.

injectors

spark plugs

leads

fuel pump

emssions devices

igntion assembly and if you replace all this stuff, you're looking at well over a thousand bucks.

If its a spark plug, 30-60 bucks, if its a coil figure around 100-150, if its an injector, around 200 bucks, if its a head gasket it will be aroun 400-700(depending on motor, if its a bad valve around 1200-1400, if its a loss of compression due to wear in the cyl, or hole in the piston, figure about 3 grand...

I would say its an injector, plug or coil though..........
