About how much does it typically cost to study abroad for a semester in college?

I go to a community college right now, but I'm going to transfer somewhere else (that offers a Study Abroad program) and I haven't been able to find out any prices. Is it about the same as regular tuition for the semester? Does financial aid apply?

  1. It is usually equal to one semester of tuition but it really varies from school to school and depends on the country you plan to study in.

  2. I am in Ottawa, Canada.

At Algonquin College foreign students an additional $4000 (approx). And there are other fees also.

  3. It totally depends on the program you go through and where you go.  Many programs cost about the same for tuition as your own college does, but you will have to pay additional money for flights, housing, etc.  You'll also have to purchase international insurance, and often there are fees for program maintenance (i.e. staff) that you don't get at your home university.

When you figure out which college you're going to transfer to, check out their international education office (every college has one).  They will be able to tell you which programs they offer and how much they cost.  Many colleges have collaborative programs with certain universities abroad that you can do for nearly the same price as your tuition at their college (plus a flight).  Also look at scholarships.  There is often funding you can apply for to study abroad.

For me, studying abroad actually ended up being cheaper than going to my college!  It's hard to believe, but it's true.  I got a scholarship to pay for it, and since my program tuition included my housing, I paid less than I would have at home!  Good luck!!
