  1. Bear in mind there's different kinds of soy sauce: light, dark, sweet (thickened & with caramel added) and the Chinese & Japanese versions have slight variations. These days, there's also reduced salt versions, which are obviously better health-wise.

The amount of salt or sodium varies by type of soy sauce & different brands. More traditional brands may not show the nutritional analysis on their bottles. But based on the brand that I use, the normal light soy sauce has 1002mg per tablespoon (15ml) & the dark one has 1229mg. Based on 100ml comparison, the sodium content is 6678mg for light and 8195mg for dark. Whereas, looking at the sodium reduced version, 15ml gives 562mg sodium while 100ml contains 3746mg, a 44% reduction against normal light soy sauce.

Although the stated serving size is 1 tablespoon, most recipes call for at least double that and even more if you're cooking some soy sauce-based stews. Also, other seasonings like oyster sauce & various bean sauces often used in the same dish contribute to the total sodium content.

The recommended sodium intake for adults is 5000mg daily, the lesser the better but many people bust that limit to smithereens. So if you don't watch it, the amount of 'hidden' sodium in various condiments & prepared seasonings put many people at high risk of potential health problems like hypertension (high blood pressure), kidney failure, diabetes etc.

  2. Sodium- 1006mg 42%

  3. alot so be careful

  4. Depends on the brand, whether it is diet or low sodium soy sauce among other things.  If you are trying to find a soy sauce with low salt content your best bet is to look at the nutrional information on the bottle for the "Sodium" content, more sodium is more salt, less sodium means less salt.

  5. mainly ... there two types .. Normal .. and Salty .. you just watch this out when buying it ... and for more details .. i thikn everything is writen on each product these days .. Nutrition facts .. :)
