About how much would it cost to get a root canal in Tokyo?

My family and I are going to meet up in Japan in a few days and my sister needs a root canal.

the problem is, her dentist did not catch anything when she first went in with the tooth pain and he even did an x-ray of the tooth. he just told her to take some pain killers.

two days later it was hurting even worse so she went to another place and they said she will need a root canal.

her appointment for that was 2 days later but in the meantime it got infected so now she has to take a course of antibiotics before getting a root canal.

We will be in Japan when she is finished with the antibiotics so she will have to get the root canal in Japan.

Does anyone know about how much that will cost in Tokyo?

thanks!

  1. They do say it's about 10,000 - 100,000 yen for a root canal in Japan without insurance. Most insurances have an overseas clause, so you usually get some sort of reimbursement on your cost eventually.

Japanese dentistry is generally considered 5-10 years behind the US, but that may not be a big deal for a root canal. Or maybe it is. Since you're fluent in Japanese, you might as well read up on it directly.

So the story is that many Japanese dentists do not use basic equipments such as rubber masks and surgical microscopes because they aren't covered by the insurance system. Treatment is successful over 90% of the time for a root canal done with a rubber mask. It's 50% without. So you know what kind of place to look for, rubber and microscope. That's probably more important than the cost.

  2. Do you even have health insurance in Japan?  Considering you're writing here in English and you're "meeting up" in Japan, I'm guessing you're from somewhere else.

In that case, it's going to cost you a fortune to get that done in Japan.  You'd be paying full cost.

I think when it comes to something like a root canal, you're going to want to do that in your home country and city.  It's not just something you do on holiday.

What is she even doing traveling now?  Are you sure she's even allowed to bring antibiotics into Japan?  You can't just go traveling with drugs (even if they're prescribed by a doctor) and expect everything to be fine.  Plus, those drugs will run out, assuming she's allowed to take them?

How old is she?  You could be dealing with a legal case against your parents for negligence if she's just a kid.

  3. getting aids   or sars

  4. Out of Japanese health insurance objective treatment, it must be more than yen 10,000 to 100,000. It depends on individual dentist and the condition of tooth itself. It takes at least 2 to 3 times to comple therapy so that she must need 3weeks because in Japan good dentist takes the patient only one time per week and very short time like 10 minutes.

In addition, most of all dentist and nurse can't speak English fluently.

I don't think she should take any treatment in Japan if she need to save money and time.
