  1. Henry VIII's first divorced ended when he believed that God cursed him for marrying his brother's wife, Catherine of Aragon. He persuaded the church to annul his marriage on the bases that his reunion with Catherine was a sin, and that she was not a virgin when she married him. At the time, it was believed that Catherine has consummated with Prince Arthur, who died months after they married. Although, Catherine sworn that she was a virgin, Henry believed he was deceived by her words, and now God is punishing him. After many miscarriages, false pregnancies and stillbirths, Henry took it as a religious sign of God, who is forbidding them to have a male heir from this “sinful” marriage.

Henry's second failed marriage with Anne Boleyn ended when she was accused of witchcraft, incest and high treason. Anne also went through many miscarriages and stillbirths. It is debatable whether he may or may not honestly believed that Anne was using witchcraft, which prevented him to have any male heir.
